Secrets of Rome

  • Duration: 2.5 Hours
  • Max Participants: 15
  • Min Participants: 2
  • English, Italian, Spanish
  • Effort: Easy

Your licensed tour guide will show you all the secrets of Rome. You will learn about the history of the Ancient Rome and you will discover the Roman cuisine in the Trastevere district.
Starting from Marcello’s Theatre, the largest and most important theatre in Ancient Rome, you will discover the secret history of Romans. Marcello’s Theatre is also known as “The Jewish Colosseum” for its resemblance to the original Colosseum. The theatre was impressive. According to sources of the time, it could hold 15.000-20.000 spectators, second in capacity only to the nearby Theatre of Pompey. It originally had 41 arches for each of the three tiers: Doric for the first two and Ionic for the last. The uppermost portion was decorated with enormous marble theatre masks. The building was fitted with ramps and tunnels that enabled spectators to leave the theatre rapidly. Although at the time it was taller than a 10-storey palazzo, today it is only about 20 meters high

Ghetto Ebraico or the Jewish Ghetto of Rome is still hidden in the heart of the city. Over the years, the area has grown into a beautiful neighbourhood filled with restaurants and synagogues that combine Jewish culture with Roman architecture. The ruins of the ancient Portico d’Ottavia still rise as a witness of the old times.
The last stop of the tour is the Trastevere district. With its narrow cobbled streets, Trastevere is always full of locals and tourists as well. It is a real Roman neighborhood, where you will absolutely get a taste of authentic Rome. There’s perhaps no better Roman neighbourhood in which to get lost than Trastevere.
