Your private guide will give you a full description of Terme di Caracalla, while walking inside this wonderful ancient second largest thermal bath of Rome. The Baths of Caracalla, located by the ancient Appian Way in Rome were named after Emperor Caracalla who reigned from 211-217 AD. His father Septimius Severus commissioned the baths and after his death, the project was completed by his son Caracalla in 216 AD. This building is among the most monumental and imposing archaeological complexes of the entire Imperial epoch. The reign of Caracalla donned an age of cruelty absent from Imperial Rome since perhaps Emperor Domitian or Nero in the 2nd century. Surviving busts of Caracalla portray a scowling and determined man capable of great evil. Indeed, he killed his younger brother to secure his throne. Despite his personal deficiencies, Caracalla proved to be an apt administrator.
Led by an exclusive private guide, your visit will be very relaxed and charming, bringing you closer to the life of the Roman Empire. The tour will give you the opportunity to witness one of the biggest examples of Roman genius. They were built in Rome between AD 212 and 217, during the reigns of Septimius Severus and Caracalla, and were capable of hosting more than 1500 bathers. Caracalla’s are some of the best-preserved ancient baths in Rome and a masterpiece of Roman architecture.
